Cartier-Bresson Henri – The Impassioned Eye The master of the “decisive moment” and one of the greatest photographers of all times, Henri Cartier-Bresson (1908 – 2004) was already a legend in his own lifetime. He travelled the world for fifty years and lived in countries like India, China and Indonesia during times of profound political upheaval. His oeuvre set standards not only for the rise of picture journalism in the 20th-century but also for the aesthetics and ethics of photography per se.
This is the first and only time that Henri Cartier-Bresson ever permitted a filmmaker such personal access to his own world, to what touched and stirred him, to the things that made him happy or pensive. In addition, actress Isabelle Huppert, playwright Arthur Miller and the Magnum photographers Elliott Erwitt, Josef Koudelka and Ferdinando Scianna contribute their highly personal views of the great master and his work – with humor and passion.
